Time to party!!

This was the week we’ve all been waiting for. Okay, well not everyone…lol! My family and I are all set to celebrate this little big guy’s FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!

12 months=1 year in case you didn't know :D

12 months=1 year in case you didn’t know 😀

The official day was this past Wednesday and unfortunately, our new 1 year old was home sick 😦 He wasn’t able to face plant himself in chocolate cake then but he’s definitely well enough to give it a go at his party tomorrow 🙂

I wasn’t able to run after Wednesday and Thursday as I was home with my son. Today will be spent taking care of last minute party planning but I’ll be heading out for my long run tomorrow morning before the festivities begin. His birthday theme is Summer Fun, I’m Turning ONE and we’ll have plenty of water activities because, well…

Yesterday's temps...

Yesterday’s temps…

At least it’ll be a cool 108 tomorrow…

giphy I hope you all have a great weekend!! Who’s running, who’s racing??

What’s your favorite way to celebrate your birthday?

Friday Five! Snapshots of my week

I’m linking up again with the DC Trifecta girls Mar on the Run, You Signed Up For What!?, and Eat Pray Run, DC–this week’s theme: Fitness Snapshots

………….

Well, there wasn’t a whole lot happening this week in the way of running or fitness 😦

Monday I was getting my hives on on the treadmill (if you missed my last post, I had a second allergy attack while running) and my 6 mile run was cut short.

bbb

I actually felt good on this run….you know, despite the itching and swelling…

and Tuesday was spent trying to remain positive:

"Find the beauty in the storm."

“Find the beauty in the storm.”

Wednesday, I went out for a rare mid-week morning run. My husband was leaving out of town for work the rest of the week so I squeezed in a 4 miler before he left. I started out tentatively but eventually found my groove and felt great the entire way. It was just what I needed to lift my spirits after what happened on Monday. I didn’t want to not run or be scared of running so I went out there and hoped for the best.

Could've kept going :)

Could’ve kept going 🙂

I thought about heading to the gym yesterday for my cross training day and dropping my kids off at the gym daycare, but I worried something might happen to me and with my husband gone, I didn’t want to risk it.

So we went backpack shopping instead 🙂 My kids start daycare on Monday and I’m pretty nervous/excited/freaking out about it.

She's ready to go!

She’s ready to go!

Fridays are typically rest days but I’m planning on heading out for another short 4 miler this evening. I have 8 planned for tomorrow morning so it’ll be nice to get my legs warmed up from having rested the past few days.

And then the rest of the day and weekend will be spent getting things ready for this big guy’s birthday! Less than 2 weeks til he’s ONE ❤

I'm in denial.

I’m in denial.

My 5 Snapshots! 😀 I hope you all have a great weekend!!

What are your weekend running plans? Anyone racing?

Tell me a snapshot of your week!

Helloooo July!! Mid-Year Review

It’s crazy to think half the year is gone! Is it me, or did it fly by??

I love new months. I know that we shouldn’t wait for a new month or a new week to start anything, that we should start whenever we have the urge or desire or want to, but there’s something about the beginning of a new month that gets me excited about what’s to come. Usually this is when I’m the most motivated.

I uploaded last night’s run (I somehow didn’t learn and went out again in 104 degree weather–106 according to my Garmin info) and looked at my total miles for the month. It was my lowest to date.

There’s nothing wrong with that and honestly I needed a low mileage month. Leading into marathon training, I purposefully wanted to lessen my mileage and rest the legs.

Looking at June’s miles made me want to look at the rest of the year. I had set a goal back in January to run 1000 miles in 2014–a goal that I didn’t care if I met or not but was interested to see how close I got.

Then I started looking at all I’ve done up to this point. I was busy!

Here’s January-June Mid Year Review:

January
Total Miles: 93.75

I ran my sub 2 hour goal half marathon this month and rocked it! I was also pretty deep into marathon training at this point.

February
Total Miles: 77.46

This month was taper month. I ran a great 10k where I placed in my age group and got my first double medal 🙂

March
Total Miles: 93.58

March Marathon Madness!!! My first marathon!!! Unforgettable. Hard. Life-changing.

I learned so much from my first. I love that I don’t have anything to compare it to yet–right now, it’s my best one 🙂 And you never really forget your first.

April
Total Miles: 85.3

Hello Europe!! I was still running pretty consistently here as I prepared for Rock n Roll Madrid, Spain. Another remarkable, unforgettable moment in my life. Traveling through Spain, Italy, and France with my husband was just the best ever.

This was also the month my brother, sister, and I ran our first race together–a family 5k 🙂 (I PR’d in the rain!)

May
Total Miles: 62.95

Oh this is the month I crossed the Grand Canyon twice, no big deal. 😀

June
Total Miles: 47.19

REST!!! You can tell from how busy I’ve been that I needed a good ‘ol month of rest. And even then I had to spice things up by doing my first trail race (and first night race)!

I can’t even explain how excited I am for the rest of the year. I have so much to look forward to (my son turns 1!) and am already so blessed. I’m especially glad I have this outlet where I can document my experiences–sometimes I go back and look at old posts, it’s like sifting through a memory album 🙂
