Oh yeah, a 5k and ENERGYbits Giveaway Winner

Yesterday I wrote about how I wasn’t sure what I was training for–RnR Madrid 1/2 Marathon or Grand Canyon Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim. Well, I seemed to have forgotten that I’ve got a 5k on Saturday lol!

I have not done any speed work for quite some time now and am not sure I’m ready for a speedy 5k. They’re not particularly my favorite because I feel like it requires full on beast mode the entire way. I’m more of a leisurely long distance runner jaja! I’d love to finally get my sub 25:00 but I don’t foresee that happening with this race.

What I’m most excited about is that my brother and sister are running it too! My sister is a runner (she’s the one that got me hooked on this thing) but my brother is not. He’s 6’2, 280 and yeah. But what I love about him is that he’s always up for anything–even doing something way outside his comfort zone. And he’s also one of our biggest cheerleaders 🙂

It’ll be our first race together and I’m just so stoked about it. Oh and random fact: My brother and I were born in the same year–he in January and me in December! (Clearly, I was an oops baby lol!)

In other news, we have a winner!! The ENERGYbits giveaway goes to…..

What am I training for?

Last week’s running deets looked like this:

Monday: Core work

Tuesday: 6 miles, 8:38 pace

Wednesday: Circuit Training

Thursday: 5 mile Adventure Run

Friday: Rest Day

Saturday: 7 miles, 9:09 pace

Sunday: 10.6 trail miles

Total Miles: 28.6 miles

I feel good with my mileage for last week. It was my first longish run/long hike back to back days Saturday and Sunday but I didn’t feel too exhausted afterward. That’s something that’ll be regular leading up to the Canyon.

I have a few things coming up so I’m in a weird not-sure-what-I’m-training-for place. I have RnR Madrid 1/2 Marathon next month (4/27) and the Grand Canyon Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim mid-May.

I’m not working on PRing in Spain. I want to just enjoy the run and enjoy where I’m at. I do want to make sure I’m prepared for the mileage however. My longest run since my marathon March 1st was Sunday’s 10.6 mile run/hike. With me going out of town on Wednesday and not getting in a long run until about two weeks from now (plus I want to leave a few days for taper), I’m in a tight spot to make sure I can get it all in. But, I know that all the training I did for my marathon has left me with a good base and I’m not starting from scratch.

What I am concerned with is that I get back from Europe May 3 and have my running group’s mandatory Death March 17.8 mile run/hike the next morning. With jet lag and the exhaustion from being gone a week, I think I’ll a good representative of that hike’s title.

The hike includes the one I did on Sunday, looping around and going up the steep part an additional two more times (3x total).

Sound fun, right? I love challenges so I’m excited about doing it but I’m not excited about doing it sleep deprived. This will be interesting.

BRF (Best Running Friend) and…..best pick up line?

I don’t know how things could possible get any better but it has. So I made it into the Marine Corps Marathon and am beyond excited about it but guess what else?

MY SOLE SISTER SALT IS GOING TO BE THERE TO CHEER ME ON!!!

You guys know how much I talk and rave about my good buddy ‘ol pal. We’ve “known” each other for a couple of years having gone through our pregnancies (my first and her only) together and now our little girls are turning two!! (hers already has!). We’ve become pretty close despite not having actually met. If you would’ve told me years ago I’d have an awesome friend from the internet I’da given you a big side eye. Here I am though, with a BRF (Best Running Friend) who lives on the other side of the country and I’m finally going to meet her!!! Expect multiple posts about this excitement and tons of pictures when it actually happens. 😀

I'm meeting Salt!!!!!

I’m meeting Salt!!!!!

In other news, on Thursday I went to a Roadrunner Sports Adventure Run (that’s where I’m at in that ^ pic). If you’ve never heard of that before, the running store Roadrunner Sports puts on a fun run the third Thursday of every month. Throughout the run, there are checkpoints where you collect raffle tickets for a chance to win cool stuff like running gear, clothes, gift certificates to sponsoring stores (and bars), and even shoes! It’s kinda like a scavenger hunt but with runner’s on the prowl for free stuff.

I went with my run club who have been to multiple of these. Being a newb, I decided to stick with them. What is supposed to be a leisurely 3 mile-ish run turned into 5 miles of intense speed work. They don’t mess around.

At some checkpoints, the restaurant/bar/store makes you perform a task or asks you a question. One bar told us we had to give them our best pick-up line to receive our raffle ticket. By this time, I was huffing and puffing and trying to think up something clever just wasn’t happening. I heard a friend give the good ‘ol, “How you doin’?” and then it was my turn.

“I’m Stacy’s mom.”

I think because I’m a mom now and pick up lines just seem ridiculous, the song Stacy’s mom has got it going on came into my head and I went with it. In any case, the bar guy and his buddies thought it was hilarious (I’m actually really glad they recognized the song. I would’ve felt really old if they hadn’t) and they gave me two extra tickets for my creativity.

We made it back by the 7:30 time limit and hoped for the best.

I didn’t win anything but a girl from my run club won one of the free shoes! It was definitely a cool fun run that I’d do again for sure.

Hope you guys have a good weekend! I’ve got a short long run today and trails tomorrow 🙂
