Feelin’ Good!!! {link up}

Happy Friday!!! I’m linking up with the DC Trifecta ladies Cynthia, Mar, and Courtney for today’s Friday 5 Good Things.

And thankfully, there’s a lot of good going on 😀

1. Drugs

Whoa, whoa, whoa, before anyone gets the wrong idea, let me remind you that I’ve been sick forever for a long time. I finally made my way to a doctor who prescribed me some medication and YAY!! I’m finally feeling better.

2. My first run back

Because of the aforementioned good thing, I was finally able to go out for a run after a 10+ day hiatus. It wasn’t the best run ever, but it felt sooo good to get back out there. My husband joined me so it made the run even better.

Totally feeling like I'm starting over here....

Starting over..

3. MRTT

I’ve mentioned that I’m a part of several running groups, but right now I’m especially happy with how the Moms Run This Town group I lead is progressing. I started our local chapter about a year ago and picked up my buddy Jennifer@We’re Running a Marathon along the way to help co-lead. And despite still being relatively new, we’ve grown our young group to almost 100 members!

And it’s not just about the numbers. There have been several meet-ups and group runs and great conversations and it’s just been awesome. Starting something and having no idea how it will turn out only to see it going well is def a GOOD thing 😀

Check out the main website for an MRTT group near you! (sorry dudes, girls only)

4. A surprise in the works

I’m so pumped!! I’ve mentioned I think a while back, how my brother has picked up running. Last year, my brother, sister, and I ran our first (and my brother’s first) sibling 5k.

Family 5k fun!

Family 5k fun!

Since then, he’s been a running machine!

Like for real. My (former) 300lb, 6’2 brother has lost 50 pounds!!! FIFTY!! He’s been running and cross training and most recently, almost exactly a year after his first 5k, he ran another one and finished in 27:56. YOU READ THAT RIGHT. He freakin’ rocked that 5k beating his previous time by 5 minutes!!

He has his sights set on running a half marathon and has been training for it the past couple of months. He sends me pics of his long runs–5 miles one week, 6 miles another week, and I’ve seriously been the most proudest sister ever.

I have to see him run this half.

Soooooooo, my awesome, amazing, I’m-so-freakin-lucky-to-have-him husband bought me tickets to go see him run!!! In Ohio!!

I have no idea if my brother reads my blog. I don’t think he does. He doesn’t know I’m going!

I did call my sister though, to kinda help with logistics, and she suggested I run it too! She’s running it, and she said it would benfun for all of us to start together and give my brother a sibling send off.

You guys, I’m so insanely excited about this.

We'll be running the half! :D

We’ll be running the half! 😀

5. Birthday girl

Finally, the best good thing…

my daughter turned 3 yesterday ❤

Threeeee!!!!!

Threeeee!!!!!

Her party is tomorrow and seriously, I can’t believe how fast these 3 years have gone by. I have a 3 year old and this summer, I’ll have a 2 year old as well!! Gahh!!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend (with great weather!)!!

Rock Your Inner Warrior {a giveaway!}

Happy April Fool’s!!! Now, this ain’t no joke. A giveaway is happening. 😀

I was approached by the yummy Rockin’ Refuel to participate in Phoenix’s Warrior Dash on April 11th but if you look to your right,… a little lower…, there!

I already have a race 😦

But….someone else can do it for me! Two someone elses!! (local someone elses, that is)

The giveaway is happening on my Instagram so you’ll have to go there to enter (a bonus: you’ll get to see some random pictures of random things I see and pictures of my feet/shoes 😀 ) A winner will be chosen Friday, 12 p.m.

At first I was really bummed. Normally, I don’t do races like the Warrior Dash but because Rockin’ Refuel was a part of it, I was more inclined to do it.

I’m def a chocolate milk recovery drinker and I actually have used Rockin’ Refuel the past couple of years so I’m a huge fan. They have different flavors–chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry– but I always go for the chocolate 🙂

Here’s why:

Yes, please!

Yes, please!

More reasons here —>Rockin’ Refuel

If you’re not local or somewhere in the vicinity of Phoenix, I still suggest you check out the Warrior Dash and absolutely, most definitely give Rockin’ Refuel a shot if you haven’t already done so.

Happy Wednesday!!

❤ , helly

P.S. I was given two free entries for this giveaway. All opinions expressed in the post are truly my own. Rockin’ Refuel legit is yummy.

P.P.S. And everytime I hear or say the word Warrior, I think of Scandal’s song.. “I am the warrrrior!!!” No? Anyone? Bueller?

–Do you drink chocolate milk for recovery?

–Have you ever done a Warrior Dash or an obstacle race? (I haven’t and this would’ve been my first–oh wells)

Healthy Kids Running Series: Race #2 Recap

Progress!!!

Before I recap, I have to show you this pic from race #1–(race pics are free!! a def plus to this race)

That face. <3

That face. ❤

So last time, if you recall, my daughter was all about it, talking and announcing how she was going to run fast like mommy only to get stage fright when it was go time. (recap here)

Afterward, she said she wanted a do over and I talked to her about how there was only one chance, that she’d have to wait for next Sunday to go again. I took the opportunity to show her pics from that day’s race and explain how the kids in the pictures were running by themselves, without their mommies. She seemed to understand how a race was meant to be run alone. I asked her, “Do you think you can run by yourself?” and she was very certain that she could.

Throughout the week she would say to my husband and I, “I run by myself!” and we’d say, “Yeah, you can do it!”

We practiced too. I’d stand on one end of the hallway and my husband at the other. We’d ask, “Do you think you can run by yourself to daddy?”

“Yeah!!”

On Sunday, we picked out the running outfit. It was all about the purple and she was very adamant about wanting big bow. She also wanted to wear shorts like mommy so she wore the same pink shorts as last time.

We arrived at the race right before the start time. The 3 p.m. start was a hot one so we didn’t want to get there early and stand around in 93 degree weather.

My husband and I walked our daughter to the finish line to show her where she was running to. We practiced running through the line and she loved it. Then it was time to gather around the start. Daddy kissed her good luck and told her he’d be waiting.

The 2-3 year old boys went first and I pointed out again how they were running without their mommies. She nodded, “I run by myself!”

Then it was her turn. The race director said the instructions to the runners and at Go! the runners took off. My daughter started running but then looked back to see where I was and yelled, “Mommy, run!” so I started running behind her. She kept turning back to make sure I was there but yup, she was doing it. Running all by herself. 😀

This race was most definitely a success. Considering last time she wouldn’t even think about standing let alone running, to now going the entire way and crossing the finish line–we are very happy with how the race went 😀

And I can tell she likes it too; she laughed and had a huge smile the entire way–that alone makes me the happiest mom in the world. ❤

My daughter takes a break from racing next weekend so you’ll have to anxiously wait two weeks for her next race update 🙂 She turns three on Thursday and is having her big bash on Saturday!

–Do you train for all races or just particular races?

–Besides following a training plan, how else do you prepare for a race?

–Do you smile while you run? : )
